PROFILE

Since its establishment in 2006, Gonçalo Lencastre Arquitectos has successfully engaged across the full spectrum of architectural and urban design, rather than focusing on narrow specialisms. The practice is currently involved in a diverse range of projects and scales, from urban planning and regeneration to public buildings, educational facilities and housing, with extensive experience across Southeast Asia, including Timor-Leste, Myanmar, Indonesia and Cambodia.

The practice’s work is informed by a sensitive understanding of place, a strong interest in the experiential qualities of materials and construction, and a commitment to addressing the environmental, social and economic dimensions of sustainability, particularly within the specific conditions of developing countries.

Gonçalo Lencastre Arquitectos is committed to a research-based and context-driven approach to design, seeking to create contemporary architecture that is firmly rooted in its cultural, environmental and physical context. This approach is applied consistently across all scales of intervention, from urban strategies and masterplanning to buildings and their detailed construction.

The practice is led by its founder, Gonçalo Lencastre, who remains closely involved in the strategic and design decisions of all projects. His direct involvement ensures continuity throughout the design process and supports a strong, collaborative working relationship with clients, consultants and other stakeholders, from the initial concept through to the development and delivery of each project.
